How do I determine my wig size?

Our wigs are available in sizes XS – XL. To determine which size would fit you best, you will need to use a flexible measuring tape to take 3 measurements of your head. Use our detailed sizing guide to determine your best fit.

What is the difference between a wig and a topper?

Accepted Answer

A wig provides full coverage and will cover your entire head, versus a topper which provides partial coverage and is typically worn with your natural hair (bio hair) showing at your front hairline and underneath, at the nape of your neck. Toppers should be very similar in color to your real hair because of the partial coverage and need to blend in. We recommend that they are the same length or just a few inches longer than your actual hair. Toppers are great for added volume and quick effortless style. A wig can be any color or length since it’s full coverage and doesn’t need to blend with your natural hair. Both are lightweight, breathable, and comfortable.

How do I determine my topper size?

Topper sizes depend on how much coverage and volume you want added to your hair.  Our topper sizes range from 5x5 to 10x10.  Please refer to our Toppers page to learn more about sizing and selection.

How do I measure my wig or topper length?

Accepted Answer

To accurately measure the length of your wig or topper start a soft measuring tape on the top crown of the head (about 2.5"back from the front hairline) to the back bottom of the hair.

How do I secure my wig? Do I need glue?

Accepted Answer

Hyde Hair wigs do not require glue for a comfortable and secure fit. We do recommend using a wig grip to make the fit feel more secure. There are also soft ear tabs and/or gentle clips on all of our pieces that will help fasten your wig in place.

What is a wig grip?

Accepted Answer

A wig grip can be worn under your wig for extra security. It’s a velvet headband that wraps the circumference of your head and secures with Velcro. The velvet material creates an anti-slip grip between your head and your wig providing a secure and comfortable fit. There are many different options available.  Wig grips are not worn under toppers.

What do the color levels in your wig descriptions mean?

Knowing your natural hair color level is very helpful when picking the best wig/topper that suits you.  Hair color has 10 basic levels with 1 being the blackest black and 10 being the blondest blonde.  Our best advice is that if you have a hairstylist you see, ask them!  It’s very helpful to have a professional stylist help determine your natural existing hair color level, density (thickness) and texture. How long will my wig or topper last?

The longevity of your wig or topper is heavily dependent on how well you care for your piece at home. It is important to always use the appropriate washing and styling products, always style using low heat, and store your wig or topper in a place that will retain moisture. High quality human hair pieces do last longer than synthetic options. With good care they should last anywhere from 9 months to 2 years or longer with excellent care!

Can I change the part on my wig or topper?

Yes, you can change the part on all Hyde Hair pieces. The lace tops allow for multi directional parting.

Question 10

Do you bleach the knots?

Accepted Answer

At Hyde Hair, we lightly bleach the front hairline knots on most wigs because doing so provides the most realistic hairline, which is highly sought after by our clients. We do acknowledge that this process does weaken the knots of the hair that are responsible for holding it in place to the lace and can cause more premature hairline shedding than if the knots were not bleached.
 
If you plan to wear your wig or topper very frequently, we suggest that you consider buying a piece without bleached knots. You can use makeup and other tools to conceal the knots and make them blend more seamlessly. 
 
Because we do educate our customers on this subject, we do not accept any returns due to shedding issues regardless of how quickly it may occur.

Question 11

Can I order a custom wig or topper?

Hyde currently does not do custom orders specifically to match one person, however, we do accept color/length requests with a deposit. If there is a piece you have seen that you like, please reach out to us via email, when we add new listings, we will place that specific piece on hold for you. Deposits made towards reserved wigs are non-refundable.

Once your color request is submitted, please allow 24 - 48 hours for a response on further action. Color request wigs and toppers are non-returnable and non-refundable.

Question 12

Can I have my Hairstylist cut or style my wig?

Yes!  Your wig can absolutely be trimmed or wash/styled by a professional assuming they are comfortable doing so.  Having the wig cut and thinned while you're wearing it is an excellent way to make it feel even more like yourself.  We advise all stylists to refer to our washing and styling guides beforehand to avoid any common mistakes.  Hyde is not responsible for any damages done by another professional.

Can I have my Hairstylist color my wig?

Accepted Answer

The short answer to this is yes.  If you know a professional hairstylist who is comfortable working with your wig you can alter the color.   We do NOT suggest lifting with bleach as it can be highly damaging without the appropriate wig coloring knowledge.  If your stylist wants they can use color that is deposit only.  Examples of this would be going all over darker, adding lowlights or a refresh/toning gloss.

Can I put my wig in a ponytail?

You can put your wig back into a ponytail or updo style, but only on the lower portion of your head for the most natural look.  With creative styling you can put them up higher, however, you do need bio hair to achieve this look.

Can I put my topper in a ponytail?

Yes, you can easily put your topper back into a mid to lower ponytail with our 10x10 toppers.

What kind of hair are Hyde Hair wigs made with?

Hyde hair pieces are all constructed using high quality 100% European Human Hair.  The hair is all virgin with intact cuticles making it extremely healthy and soft.  All wigs dry naturally straight, but hold a style very well.

Why do you use human hair?

We use human hair because we specialize in coloring wigs so having real hair allows us all the options to make it look how we want without damage.  Human hair is considered top quality for wigs due to its natural characteristics that mimic real hair.  The longevity and durability of human hair contribute to its high-quality status, as these wigs can withstand regular styling and maintenance.  The comfort factor is significantly enhanced, as human hair breathes naturally and feels soft against the scalp.

What do I do with the extra lace at the front hairline of my wig?

Accepted Answer

The extra lace at the front hairline symbolizes that the wig is new and unworn. When you get your new piece, you will cut this lace to match your natural hairline. We recommend cutting it about 1/8th of an inch from your natural hairline. Make sure the scissors you use to cut the lace are very sharp as you don’t want snags or tears. You can also use pinking shears, which creates a jagged line making it even less detectable.

How do I secure my topper?

Start by parting your natural hair where you want to wear the topper. Then, place the topper over the parted area of your hair. Make sure that the par line of the topper part aligns with your natural part and is placed in a way that it is centered over the parts of your hair that are of most concern. Secure the clips along the edges of the topper to your natural hair, making sure that they are tight enough to hold the topper in place, but not so tight that they pull on your hair. Sometimes, it helps to gently tease your natural hair where the clips will be attached. Once the topper is secure, you can style your hair as desired. You can use hairspray or to keep your hair in place.

Will TSA detect my wig or topper?

This is an excellent question and we did the research and NO!  No one has reported being stopped at TSA for wigs, toppers or clip in extensions or hair pieces.

The short answer is yes.  We have a clearly detailed return policy that we highly recommend reviewing prior to your purchase.  The try-on period and return conditions are important for your guaranteed return.  Please refer to our returns section at the bottom of our site.
